Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 is a run-time product by none other than Microsoft itself. The program runs the applications that are built with Visual Studio through this framework. .Net (aka dot net) Framework provides language interoperability across various programming languages i-e each language can utilize the code that is written in other languages. Programs written for .NET Framework are executed in a software-based environment rather than in a hardware-based environment. The software-based environment is known as CLR, Common Language Runtime.

CLR is an application virtual machine that is known for providing services including security, exception handling, and memory management. .NET Framework also includes a large class library known as FCL or Framework Class Library. As such, the computer code which is written by using .NET Framework is known as “managed code”. CLR and FCL together make up the .NET Framework.

Microsoft released the 2.0 version of the .NET Framework on 22 January 2006 following the release of Microsoft SQL Server 2005, Visual Studio 2005, and BizTalk 2006.
